Can Tourists Buy Cannabis in Washington DC?

7 Ways to Spot a Licensed Dispensary in Washington, DC

Yes. Eligible visitors can shop at Washington DC’s licensed medical cannabis retailers. The key is to sort out your registration before you try to buy.

Two ways in

Reciprocity. If you already hold a medical cannabis card at home, DC may recognize it. Licensed retailers can accept registrations from most U.S. states, territories and some tribal nations. Check ABCA’s reciprocity list and bring your card with a photo ID.

Temporary registration. If your program is not covered, or you do not have a card, you can buy a temporary non-resident registration through the MyABCA customer portal. You must be 21 or older. You pick a period from 30 days to a year, and ABCA lists the fee at $10 to $100 depending on that choice. International visitors can use this option too.

Check that the shop is licensed

Not every storefront that sells cannabis in DC operates under the same rules. ABCA keeps ABCA’s list of operational retailers. Doobie District is on that list at 1526 U Street NW.

Before you head out

  • Confirm your registration or card is active.
  • Bring a government-issued photo ID. Passports work for international visitors.
  • Check store hours and browse the menu so you know what is in stock.
